Chadd Wright 3 of 7 Project

Chadd Wright is a retired Navy SEAL who became the first person in Naval Special Warfare history to undergo elective open heart surgery to remove an asymptomatic pericardial cyst and successfully complete SEAL training. After serving over a decade as a Team Leader on multiple deployments, SEAL instructor, and Master Training Specialist, Wright retired in 2019 to pursue elite ultramarathon racing. His ultramarathon achievements include winning The Revenant, Mid State Mile, and Single Track Maniac races. Alongside his brother Blake, Wright co-founded the 3 of 7 Project, dedicated to developing the complete human through training of body, soul, and spirit. His philosophy centers on achieving balance through all three aspects of human nature, representing the "3" in their mission, while the "7" symbolizes a totally complete life. Wright's approach to training mirrors his SEAL philosophy: "You want to train like you fight."

      The Chadd Wright Story

      Chadd Wright Barbell Apparel

Born and raised in the mountains of northwest Georgia, Chadd Wright grew up hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors with his younger brother Blake. The rugged mountain terrain of their childhood would later prove foundational to both his military service and ultrarunning career. During those formative years, an unbreakable bond of brotherhood was forged that would eventually birth a project designed to change the world.

Wright's SEAL dream began when he encountered a Navy recruiter's banner reading "The Hardest Training in the World." Despite knowing nothing about the military, something clicked—he knew this extreme challenge was exactly what he wanted. The path wasn't immediate. Wright initially failed his physical assessment due to lack of preparedness and couldn't even swim properly. Through relentless determination and multiple attempts, he eventually passed the physical requirements and entered the Navy.

Just when his SEAL dream seemed within reach, military doctors discovered a pericardial cyst on his heart, initially disqualifying him from BUDS training. Refusing to accept defeat, Wright tracked down a surgeon willing to perform the risky procedure that every other cardiologist had deemed too dangerous. After successful surgery and proving his fitness, he pushed forward to complete his SEAL training flawlessly.

Wright's military career spanned over a decade, serving as a Team Leader on multiple deployments to conflict zones worldwide. He twice supplemented President Barack Obama's security detail during warzone visits abroad, standing watch while the Commander-in-Chief slept. Eventually rising to Master Training Specialist, Wright discovered his passion for teaching others, finding he learned more from instruction than from all his combat missions combined.

During a deployment, Wright experienced a profound spiritual transformation. When his team felt overwhelmed by malevolent forces in a building they occupied, Wright called his Christian brother Blake for help. Blake's pastor prayed with Wright over the phone, bringing peace to the situation and prompting Wright's conversion to Christianity in a bare room, by himself. This experience fundamentally changed his worldview and approach to life's challenges.

After retiring from the Navy in 2019, Wright found new purpose as an elite ultramarathoner, viewing running as a spiritual quest for self-knowledge and mind-body mastery. He spends hours on mountain trails in North Georgia, sometimes running 8, 10, or even 12 hours, striving to become one with the earth. Wright has tackled some of the world's most insane endurance challenges, including The Revenant—a 118-mile footrace across New Zealand with over 52,000 feet of elevation gain.

During regular phone conversations with Blake throughout their separation, the brothers conceived the idea of building a brand dedicated to helping others become more complete. The 3 of 7 Project emerged as the place where their passions, desires, and paths merged, combining their past experiences to assist others in becoming the best version of themselves. Wright takes students into the wilderness for his "Basic Course," forcing them outside their comfort zones to develop both hard and soft skills in unpredictable natural environments.

Wright's training philosophy emphasizes that proper gear supports the complete athlete. His approach focuses on living to standards rather than results, understanding that if you're always achieving your standards, they're not high enough. For Wright, athletic apparel must function across all aspects of training—whether facing the physical demands of ultramarathons, the mental challenges of wilderness survival, or the spiritual discipline of complete human development.
